BOOK CARD
- Original title: Make your bed
- English title: Make your bed
- Author: William H. McRaven
- Category: Personal growth
WHAT DOES IT TEACH US?
1. Make the bed yourself:
Big changes start with little things, like making your own bed every day and starting to be self-sufficient.
2. Find as many friends as you can and get help because Rome wasn’t built by just one person:
Friends of quality and not, help you in times of need if you ask them.
3. In life you need to have a big heart
You must be generous to people in general because your gesture will probably be reciprocated.
“A man’s worth should be measured by how much he gives and not by how much he is able to receive.”
– Albert Einstein
4. You will make mistakes in life and those mistakes will have to serve as a lesson for the future so failure is a good thing.
Failure is more important than victory because it is easier to understand where one went wrong and learn from it.
5. In life you don’t need to be afraid to risk everything because if you don’t reach your limits you won’t know what you’re really worth.
Reaching the limit helps you understand where you can go, but to know what your limit is, you’ll have to work hard to reach it.
Example: today I lift 20KG, but I know my maximum I can lift.
6. Face all kinds of difficulties head on and never regret.
Life is made for fighting against adversity, the more you fight, the stronger you become.
Don’t have regrets because the choices you have made have led you to where you are now for better or for worse.
7. In life there will be a dark moment like the death of a loved one and from the darkest point you have to give your best.
Life is made up of both good moments and above all bad moments that will punch you in the stomach and leave you breathless on the ground, you have to get up stronger than before.
“If you look into the abyss, the abyss will look into you”
-H.P. Lovecraft
8. Hope is that thing that can lift you up morale and it’s that thing that creates great nations, when things go wrong start singing and smiling trying to give hope to other people.
Negative things happen and lead us into a negativity loop that is hard to break out of.
The only thing that can make you escape from that situation is the hope that someone else can pass on to you or that comes from within you.
9. Bossy people will try to scare you but you have to be braver than ever.
If someone tries to manipulate you for his own purposes, you have to gather courage and fight because the worst thing that can happen is to remain submissive.
10. Do not self-pity siding with the oppressed by showing respect to all.
Bad things make you enter a negative spiral where thoughts take possession of you.
The truth is that we are all weak and that’s why you need to help those in the same situation as you to become increasingly resilient.
PERSONAL OPINION
The advice from this book is very simple and effective because life isn’t so difficult in the end if you have the ability to transform moments of general disillusionment and disappointment with the world into something of value for you and the others around you.
